Found out this evening. She hasn't been a well cat for a bit really, she had surgery to remove a lump from her intestines earlier this year and bounced back quite well. However in the last few weeks she hasn't been eating properly, has lost weight and has looked uncomfortable.
We took her to the vet today who did some tests and said she has more tumours in her spleen and intestines and they can't really do anything about it. They can give us a palliative care package so she is comfortable and apparently has about a month to live.
Feel a bit numb at the min, we've had her 14 years and she's such a sweet little thing.

I'm so sorry to hear this - poor you.
I went through this earlier in the year with Spook and it was utterly heartbreaking. At times she was so bright I started thinking maybe the vet had got it wrong, but she went rapidly downhill at the end. When we finally made the decision to get her put to sleep, it was a relief in a way because my emotions were being put through the ringer and I knew that her suffering was over.
I still miss her, in fact I had a little tear earlier.
In your position I would spoil her rotten - we did, she was allowed to do everything she wanted to do, we gave her extra treats, made her as comfortable as we could.

I had the same experience as Geri, totally heartbroken when I lost my boy but I knew he wasn't suffering any more. At first I couldn't mention his name without getting upset, but it gets easier and you'll be able to look back on her life and smile at the fun times. Promise. x

Hey Strudel, we lost Baby in the summer, 17 year old mog.

Mind, she's still in her box on the dining room table, as we still all miss her !!.
The only thing I'd say is def make sure you ask the vet for a knock out sed, rather than him try to find a vein to put her down when the time comes, as poor old Baby really struggled with this.
I wish he's jjust injected her first, rather than jab about on her leg - he had to sedate her anyway, but her little leg hurt so much, she was crying with it in the air - just awful !!
Just enjoy the time when you can.

How horrible, I am dreading this happening to my cates, they are so old now, it won't be much longer. Spoil her rotten and take lots of pics. Enjoy her x
Thanks for your replies. It hasn't really sunk in, she bounced back from this operation earlier in the year so well we really thought she had a good 4-5 more years in her. She's very chirpy though, being allowed to do what she wants.

TBH haven't thought at all about the next stage, just trying to come to terms with the prognosis at the min, and hope that she has more than a month. Not sure how accurate the vets can be with this?

The thing is with Mol as well is that she's always been a really small cat, and very youthful looking, so she still almost looks like a kitten. She's very springy and light and trots about the place. It just makes it seem so wrong because she just doesn't seem old at all
