Still having problems

Right i posted a few months ago about a problem downstairs :S
i went to the doctor a few times and eventually had a smear and swab done, both comnig back normal, i also went to the hospital to have a internal abdominal ultrsound done, never actually rang for the results but was told off last time and told i dont really need to ring that if there was any problems they would call me. After everythnig came back normal i decided to come off the pill to see if any difference would occur, a slight difference. Not to go into too much detail but i was suffering from mainly discharge problems and the occasional cramping problem. Its now been nearly 3 months off the pill and im still getting the symptoms, well not as bad as they were. Decided enough is enough, gonna book to go see my doctor, so just rang them and asked to see a certain doctor who was really good on monday next week. Am i overreacting?
The reason i never and the doctor back before is i felt like a burden, as from my past medical history of depression the doctors dont take me seriously, as if im making it all up. Believe i dont have time to make stupid things up.
Maybe it is hormones, or like people have said about shedding from inside.
My mum told me before i need to go back cause i need to request to see a gynae, i dont know about needing to see a gynae, im sure its not that serious.
Whatever it is is driving me mad and i cant not go cause im frightened of wasting peoples time and frightened of getting told off by the doctor.

A doctor should never write a patient off for "overeacting". If your doctor does this, register with a new doctor. It does sound like a serious problem that needs medical attention, so don't be afraid to see your GP. But going to the doctor for a slight cough, when you could buy something over the counter, would be going a bit far! But don't worry about wasting your doctor's time: you're not.

thankyou hunni for the reply, well im going tommorow night to have a word, and hopefully they wont try and send me off to clinic for sti's and std's like what was suggesed before, cause its horrible.

I have had similar problems on and off for years. I have had every test going only for them to come back negative. Very frustrating indeed.

Earlier in the year I found a gel in Boots called Re-Phresh. You use them every 3 days and I found they worked wonders for me. Not cheap either but I was glad to have found something that seemed to clear things up. I also changed my pill and went on Cerazette and I don't need to use the gel at all anymore. I never asked my doctor for the gel on prescription, but perhaps it might be worth a try?

It could just be that this discharge is normal for you; some women just find they get this.

'Normal' discharge is usually clear or slightly creamy/white (usually when it dries, sorry if TMI!) in colour, and can vary in thickness. For some women it's very thin; others find it can be thicker; it can also vary depending what time of your cycle it is. It should be also fairly odourless, though may have a faint scent (a bit like other bodily secretions).

The only times you should really be worried about discharge are:

if it has a strong odour (NB. using scented products in that area can disrupt the natural ph levels and encourage bacterial growth which can lead to a strong fishy smell (again, sorry if TMI)

if it is extremely thick and lumpy (like the cottage-cheese type discharge you get with thrush)

if it contains blood (though as you've had smears etc done that rules anything untoward out, so blood could simply be a sign of vaginal trauma, or cervical erosion which is harmless (and has probably already been checked for))

if it is green or very yellow in colour, as this can be a sign of infection (again, as you've had swabs etc done, this basically rules infection out)

I don't in all honesty think there's much more your GP can do if they've done swabs, scans, and smears; it's probably just normal for you unfortunately. I get discharge which has increased as I've got older; mine is medium-thick depending what part of my cycle I'm in, fairly odourless, and white in colour. It's not excatly pleasant but it's normal and nothing to worry about.

If you are very worried, by all means ask your GP for a referral to a gynaecologist; I'm not sure though that they'll be able to do much more than your GP has, but if it makes you feel better then don't be afraid to ask; you do pay for the NHS after all, it isn't a freebie.

You could also consider seeing a gynae private if you don't want to wait too long, which will cost from �150 plus tests.

Have you had a sexual health screen katy? I know it's a tad uncomfy but aside from a gynecologist they are the best people to have checking your bits and pieces. They specialise in this area and will be able to advise you better than your doctor.

I went to the doctor over a week ago and she suggested sexual health screen however i had one during my relationship with my ex, and have not had sexual relations with anyone else. She reckons everything is normal and theres nothing to worry about atall as its normal.
So for now im just gonna have to accept its normal and this is what ive been stuck with. Thing is i bleed yesterday as a one off and thought oh maybe im on my period, i wasnt as i only had my last one 2 weeks ago, then again im wondering whether thats cause i came off the pill 3 months ago.

See.. what i'm saying is these are the best people to go and see about your bits.. they know the ins and outs and can advise you. It's not just about going to check for STIs.. you may have a low grade infection that is nothing to do with having sex even.. they can have a good look for you and put your mind at ease.

It's a bit like going to the dentist.. you go for a check up to make sure everything is ticking along ok.. not just when you have problems don't you?.. a sexual health screen is just basically the same.

I hope it sorts itself out though soonish.. it's a pain when something isn't working the way you want it.xx

Agree re sexual health screens: I go every 6 months when not in a relationship, then around every 12 months if I'm in a relationship. Now that I've been with my OH 3 1/2 years I'll probably go less frequently or only if I feel something isn't quite right.

That said, it does sound like the doctors have tested for pretty much everything, and unfortunately it may just be normal for you. As I said, I get discharge which varies in consistency and amount, but it's just normal for me.

Push for an appointment with a gynae if you want another opinion, but I think they'll give you the same answer, and it's probably going to be a case of learning to live with it. There are lots of feminine hygeine products around which can help, such as wipes, gels, and panty liners, and you should also follow basic rules such as avoiding scented products in the area, weearing clothes in natural fibers, etc.
