Subject: Can't cope with my itchy legs any longer!!!
I suffer with really itchy legs, they are all red and scabby (sorry tmi) from where I have scratched till the cows come hone!

I moisturise daily and even used E45 cream and nothing works. They get worse as soon as water touches them. As soon as I get in the bath I just want to scratch.

Has anybody else suffered the same thing or know of anything that can help me?

I think I'd see the GP too if I were you. I'd also probably take an antihistamine to see if that helped.

Have you tried washing with aqueous cream? I use it when I have a flare up and then moisturise with E45 Anti-Itch Cream.

I agree you need to see your GP. If you need steriod cream to help you're going to have to stop scratching (I know how impossible that is) You can't apply steriod cream to broken skin.

Try showering insted of taking a bath-water actually dries the skin out, and I would get hold of some antihistamine too

You have all my sympathy as I has a constantly itchy back and neck at the start of the year.

My advice would be . . .
- reduce the temperature of your baths and showers
- try to have bare legs and let air to them (easiest at home)
- wash your bed sheets regularly as dustmites may be the cause and these will thrive on your dry/itchy skin cells on the bed sheets (gross but true!)
- take an allergy relief/anti-histermine daily even if not feeling particularly itchy
- use acqueous cream instead of soap and moisturiser. You can buy big tubs of this in most chemists. Definitely cut down on moisturisers as they pretty much all contain acid/alcohol/perfume.
- see your doctor. You may have eczema or similar or may even be anaemic (which causes itching and breathlessness but is easily treated).

All of the above has helped me to pretty much cure my eczema this year after 15 years of suffering. I now maintain my skin rather than fighting the urge to itch!
Good luck.

Hi, Im new so excuse me if I post this in a wierd way... I felt it my duty to reply to you - I had this problem a while back and it was the bane of my life for some years..agree with methods above - esp. not using E45 - you may be allergic to lanolin - Aqueous cream is better (and cheaper). You can also wash with aqueous cream instead of soap to avoid irritation.
You may also want to try an emolient bath product - these are soothing. After that try to dry your legs by patting them - dont rub with a towel.
My best tip is to take a flaxseed oil supplement once a day (has all sorts of omega and fish oil etc in it) - this has worked for me and I am now dry skin free. You can get them in Holland and Barrett etc.
Good luck!

I also think you should definitely go and see your GP about this. But in the meantime I can highly recommend a non-steroidal cream called 'Allergenics'. I get the odd bit of dermatitis/eczema every now and again and this stuff works wonders. Plus it has no nasties in it, so totally safe to use. I find mine in the local health food shop, but you can probably get it on the internet too. Google it.

Also, might seems like a stupid question, but have you changed your shower gel/soap/body lotion recently? I'm wondering if you're having a reaction to something...

You could be allergic to lanolin, biological washing powder/liquid. You could also have been having a reaction to pollen, found in grass. I agree about using aqueous cream instead of soap and water. E45 anti-itch cream could also help. Lowering the temperature of baths/showers. Wearing cool, comfortable clothes will also help. An antihistamine taken daily will also help. I know these things have already been suggested, but they are really good ideas! I just want to second everybody on here. You could also use camomile lotion. If none of those ideas work, then see your doctor as soon as you can.

Hi Bubbles,

Bathtime can be a nightmare for eczema sufferers and I would agree with those who have mentioned using cooler bath water to beat the itch. Lanolin can affect some people and you may want to switch to a soap-free skin wash rather than soap. On the [/b] http://www.lifewitheczema.com/ website there are videos with a dermatologist offering advice.

If you click on this link [/b] http://www.lifewitheczema.com/advicevideos.php the video at the bottom is about flare ups and how to avoid them - including advice on bathing, clothing etc

I hope this has been useful.

My mum has had this for years, she completely ignores baths altogether now because it makes her itch like mad.
The only other thing I can think of is your liver. But that would be more generalised itching (all over) as oppose to localised (only in one place)
Use the moisturiser still, but only shower for a while!

Hi I noticed your post and as an excema sufferer with 3 children who also inherited it I thought I would pass on some tips which can assist you. Firstly only was clothes etc with non biological washing powder, if you use a fabric softer only use a mild one like fairy.

I suffered for years until I discovered this. The methods advised in other posts are a great help to these sorts of conditions. But ultimately you must seek medical advice from your GP to rule out any infection.

Good luck hope this has helped you.

I have itchy legs sometimes too. I've tried keeping it clean. Keeping it moisterized. Etc. Still itches! usually around the ankles.

I found that if i ignore it, itll mostly go away. A Lot of it is mental. But maybe im just eating the right foods now who knows. My pops has something similar so its hereditary
