Subject: Embarrassing problem....any Doctors out there??!!
I have a problem with stress incontinence but it is far worse during my period, though I have no idea why?

I am in my 30's, have two children born after long labours so I have always taken care of my pelvic floor with cones, Kegel 8 device and self exercise. During my period for some reason I have tiny amounts of urine leakage when I don't feel as though I need to go to the toilet. I can just be walking along and leakages occur or coughing and sneezing etc result in slightly larger leakages. The problem is DEFINATELY worse when I am on my period and during this time I cannot seem to locate my pelvic floor muscles though I can easily when not on my period? Is this a common problem? I wondered if anyone out there had had similar roblems despite doing their exercise, as I do?

There are probably quite a few people out there with the same problem as yourself. You can do exercises to increase your pelvic floor muslces strength and stop leakages. But I am by no means an expert. Still, carry on wearing pads and do empty your bladder regularly. Other than that, do the obvious and see your doctor. I'm not a doctor myself, but you can reduce the problem. You should be shown how to strengthen your muscles and reduce any leakages, is my best guess.

Hi hopethisworks

You sound just like I did. I had surgery 3 weeks ago to correct this. There are things that you can try before deciding to go down the surgery route. I hade physio at hospital and worked really hard at trying to reawaken my pelvic floor muscles, but nothing I tried would work so I was referred for surgery.

Let me know if you want any info about the treatments I had and if I can help you with any questions, I will try. I am not a doctor but a 36 year old woman with children who has been down this path.

The reason it's worse when you have your period is that your womb swells and puts extra pressure on your bladder
