I think most of us in here rely on DLA or similar to some form of extent. See the link for details, but the gist is that the government are trying to redirect this into Social Work departments rather than to the individual. I have never had a good experience with my local social work - I know what's best for me, not some bint of an OT who thinks that just because my parents' bathroom is bigger than someone's from the council estate that I shouldn't be entitled to help.
I need DLA for wheelchair maintenance (privately bought - I wouldn't touch an NHS chair with a bargepole), winter heating, and various other things. They can't take this away!

That is very bad news. Many people need that money. I realise the government wants everyone working, but some are too ill to work. Whether it's a disability or mental illness, those people should still be entitled to that money. There should definitely be a lashback against such a move.

I had no idea that a person could work AND claim DLA! If I may ask, how many hours a week can someone work and still claim disability benefit?
There's no limit. (For DLA anyway).

I'm 18 and i have epilepsy. My DLA got stopped along with my meds, because they dictated everything that was said, i cant go out on my own in case i have a seizure and i cant do the cooking on my own etc and they still took my money away from me in which i relyed on to pay my bills and put food on my table, so i was forced to go to the job center and sign on, now i sign on and i have recently had a bad seizure and got rushed into hospital by ambulance and now i have to apply for DLA all over again, if only they had listened to me in the first place!! There is a reason for them doing this though. there are a lot of people (like my dad) out there claiming DLA just because they cant be bothered to go out to work, my dad is 54 and has been on DLA for over 20 years for 'back problems' and they dont even review him, he is in a band and has to stand up most of the night and he is fine with that, he's perfectly able to go to work, but he just doesnt want to because everything he owns gets given to him on a plate near enough. and it makes me so angry because i would love to be able to even go out on my own let alone go to work, but i cant and i'm the one being forced to sign on!! i only get £50 per week, bearly enough to pay for housekeeping.
