Subject: advice on making complaint to social services
I need to make a complaint to/about social services.

Basically, they closed my hubs care agency while we were away. He was contacted but was only told that there were concerns and was definitely not told there would be no care on his return. We were also told that we may have to wait up to a week for care to be restored, which was also unacceptable (I have arthritis and can't do hubs care, plus he is on direct payments!)

Any advice would be welcomed please, ta!

They surely can't just leave him without care? Does he have a social worker? Otherwise I'd phone your local office and ask to speak to the duty officer, who should be able to point you in the right direction.

Then the best thing is to write a letter. I would write directly to the Director of Social Services for your county. That will ensure that the people concerned get it, as it will be passed back down to them.

Will do that, thanks Elsie; hubs doesn't have a named social worker, its whoever is on duty at the time...

I agree that writing a letter to the director of social services in your county is the right move. Do type it up and get someone you know to review what you've written. Also, do make yourself precise & clear in the letter. Good luck.

They will have a complaints proceedure and your local council will probably employ someone who's job it is to investigate complaints. Contact your local council to find out what the proceedure is.

I work for Social Services (please dont hate me lol! )and Im sorry you had such a bad experience. please do make a complaint, that's the only way things will ever get changed. I always encourage the people i work with to complain when processes and proceedures are unfair, go for it, other people in a similar position (and probably many people who work for social services - most of us do actually care)will thank you for it! xx
