I absolutely looooove it, but I'm having a major dilemma as to what to wear with it for a big night out coming up. I was thinking a peach/nude top so it's not too dark, but I'm having trouble finding one that won't look to summery.
Would love it if someone could give me some suggestions as to what to wear with it - don't fancy wearing black on my top too, im a size 8 and full black makes me look skeletal!

I think cashmere is the best fit with velvet. Its all aboutt he fabric and feel when you wear velevt - you can't mix it with an ordinary fabric.

I have to dis-agree about the cashmere, its a heavy fabric and so is the velvet, it would clash and look slightly 'mumsy'. personally i would go for a silk shirt, short sleeved, with slight puffed cap sleeves preferably, especially with your tiny size 8 frame. And im visioning a peach colour though also magenta or a deep red for a more galmorous look. Infact, any colour would go with this fabulous skirt, but definatly i would team it with a gorgeous silk short sleeved skirt and maybe a leather belt.
How about wearing a lovely, sparkly green top.
Or it could be something like a green top which is made out of light cotton fabric, with a lovely pattern/ design printed on it and the material would be layered and frilly to create a gorgeous look.
Also if you were to wear a thin fabric top, then you would need to also wear a short, fashionable cardigan maybe a black wool/ cotton one and it could have long sleeves to keep you warm.
If full black makes you look skeletal then a soft white cotton lacy top would look great. Short puffy lace sleeves at the shoulder. Some what low cut with lace around the sleeves, neck, and waist is what I see in my minds eye.

Something chiffon usually goes with a velvet skirt. Perhaps a chiffon over-blouse worn over a snug vest top?

Sorry for not replying sooner everyone, thank you all so much for the replies you've all been a great help. I've wrote all the suggestions down so next time I'm shopping I'll be on the hunt for something similar.
I'm liking the lacy idea, I've seen quite a lot of that on the high street too, so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled.
