Subject: How did you decide which cloth nappies to go with?
For the pregnant ladies as well, as I know there has been some discussion of this over there.
I have been a Pampers devotee up until now, but as M is a pretty modest nappy-filler and as we're going to have more than 1 baby, I figure I might as well jump on the cloth nappy bandwagon.
But - how do you decide which to go with?! There are so many choices out there. I've had a look on Lizzie's Real Nappies and even then I'm no closer to deciding. I've had a couple of brochures through, and again likewise. M has a Bambino Mio swim nappy which came out best on a review I read, but then with regard to their actual nappies I've read that they can leak...!
So - if you're a cloth nappy user, how did you decide which to go with?

Hi Zigg

I just went off the reviews of the nappies on the net ((( I have Bumgenius ones (only 5 though) and am thinking of getting the Smartnappy system from Mothercare - as that seems to have good reviews and isnt as expensive as Bumgenius. I'm already in possession of around 1200 Smart liners, so it makes sense for me to get the rest of the kit.

I just read what the Mothers have said on the Mothercare website about each kind of nappy and will hope for the best??!!

I googled endlessly for reviews and information whilst I was pregnant. I knew that I wanted something quick drying as we don't have a tumble dryer and I didn't want to get one. In the end I plumped for Bumgenius pocket nappies, they get very good reviews and because they are very similar to disposables, I thought there was a good chance of OH actually using them. I'm very pleased with them.

It could be worth checking your local council website. Ours run an incentive scheme and there is a nappy lady who visits the local baby groups with nappies and advice. Our council will also loan a nappy pack with a selection of nappies that you can try to help you make up your mind. I didn't bother in the end because I wanted it sorted before the baby arrived, but if I was in your shoes with baby already here I think I would give it a go.

Thanks both of you.
I guess my worry is that having tried loads of different disposables, I know which I like and which I don't like so I'm guessing the same thing would happen with cloth.
I'd just hate to fork out for a load of nappies and then have them not really be what I'm looking for - i.e. they leak, or they're not stretchy and comfy, not very absorbent (i.e. go all night), or they're not nice and slim (in other words, all the things I like about Pampers!).
Maybe that's enough info - if I can try to find some cloth nappies which have those features, I might be onto a winner.

I asked my mum! I decided when pregnant I was going to use cloth, had a bit of a look at what was available. I couldn't get my head round the various new types (stuff this, pad that etc etc) plus the cost of them put me off, when some were 12 a nappy, it seemed crazy.

i asked my mum what she thought, and she said why not just use a very basic, old fashioned, terry and wrap so thats what I did.

I am currently using them on my second child who is 18 months. Can't fault them.

That's exactly what happened to me. I not only spent a small fortune on TWO sets of reusables (Kushies, which were CRAP, and BumGenius, which I didn't get on with and leaked) it increased my washing palaver (and think of the energy used doing that) and, well, I don't think it's particularly environmentally friendly to have bought two loads of systems that are unused, if that makes sense.

So I went back to Pampers, which have never leaked and were comfortable and slim even when my daughter was in double nappies for 6 weeks.

But my friend likes terry ones. But she does do an awful lot of washing, which again costs some way along the line.
