Subject: moses basket to cot
Hi All

Just looking for some advice really.

Am is now just 6 weeks old, she's in our room in her moses basket at night but for the past few days I have been putting her to sleep in her cot during the daytime and she seems to sleep sooooooooooo much better, going 3/4 hours with no interuptions, where as in her moses basket day and night everytime she moves her arms and legs it wakes her up momentarily because of the noise they make !! I

n the daytime she sleeps completely spread out in her cot, arms straight out lol. where as in moses she cant do that, she was born quite long as well (54cm) so cant see her lasting very long in moses anyway. tried swaddling her from birth to avoid her waking it lasted 2 weeks then she much prefered arms above her head technique. [http://community.handbag.com/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif]

I know if i moved her into her cot in her room (its a cot bed so we cant get it in our room) she'd sleep much sounder at night (as would we !! ), but I'm just terrfied of anything awful happening. But I'm presuming this fear will never go away until she's much bigger.

Has anybody else moved them earlier than the guidelines?

Thanks Girls Hope all the babies are well [http://community.handbag.com/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-kiss.gif]

Sorry I don't have an answer to this one, but I'm glad you asked as I was thinking about when to move Oliver to his cot too and wanted some advice.

Hi

I put O in her room in her cot at about 6 weeks old, as she slept so much better in there and was getting too big for her moses basket.

I can honestly say it was the best decision we made, from that first night in her cot she slept thru the night and has done since!! She is now 18 weeks old.

Her room is next to ours, so we can hear her when she cries but we also use a monitor she we can hear all her little snores and sounds. I also usually check on her when i wake up in the night.

I am so pleased we did this as we all started sleeping better.

We put her in a grow bag, so i dont have to worry about blankets coming off.

In your position id give it a try. But using a grobag, sleeping bag thingy.

Thanks DG, yeah we've got a 0-6month Gro Bag which is what i was going to use. no point risking blankets when theres an alternative.

Reasuring to hear somebody else has done this.

Thanks

Hi,

Depending on the size of your house, I'd say go for it. We moved Alex out into his own room pretty early, for exactly the same reason. We managed a bit longer, because our inherited moses basket was bigger than average and he liked to sleep swaddled, but he was still only about 10/11 weeks when he moved out. I was worried, but figured that in our little house we'd hear every sound he made anyway. Anyway, I cried myself to sleep that first night, and then had the best night sleep I'd had since he was born - we haven't looked back. He's never minded and it was nice to have our bedroom back to ourselves. I still creep into his room umpteen times though, just to gaze at him, and he's 71/2 months old now. (and yes, we do hear every sound he makes) We have the monitor on all evening, and then just have the doors open when we all go to bed.

Hi! Although I didn't move my son into his own room until he was 6 months I can highly recomend a monitor with a sensor pad - we had one from a few days old and it stopped the constant need to keep checking his breathing!!! I don't know if thats the answer for you but it might help put your mind at rest if you do move her into her own room.

I moved my daughter in to her cot on saturday night, she didnt sleep better. However the cot is in our room which is where shes always been.

She slept in her moses basket for 6 weeks then moved in to our bed for 4 months. The moved back in to her moses basket. Now shes in her cot but i dont think i could not have her in our room. I too have this fear and try to keep it in check like elliot in SCRUBS. Keep the crazy hidden but its hard.

well...........we took the plunge last night, Am got a really good nights sleep she only murmered once at 4.30 when she wanted her bottle.

i woke up regularly and checked her about every 2 hours, but knowing she was fine puts my mind at ease for tonight and i'll probably narrow it down to every 3 hours haha

I've ordered a baby monitor which should arrive in the next couple of days so I might try Oliver in his cot in his own room at the weekend, and try not to get up a million times in the night to check on him!

well after 4 nights in her own room and cot, she slept from 10-7 last night, it was bliss, all though i did wake up at 5 and panic as she usually wakes at 4 for bottle.

Hopefully it wasnt a one off haha !!

Finley's now eleven weeks and nearly too big for his moses basket. I'm trying to find a reasonable priced crib at the moment so he can stay in our room for longer.

I hear Finley start to wake before he cries and so I am able to feed him whilst he is still sleepy and completely calm. This means that DH doesn't get woken, I don't need to wake too much and most importantly Finley doesn't get disturbed or need to cry so he's back in bed, fed and almost alseep within ten minutes (and I've not had to get out of bed). Finley does snuffle in his sleep but I am happy to drift off to his snoring on one side and DH snoring on the other!

He still wakes at night at about four am and again about half six/seven in the morning but I don't mind as these are our little private cuddles, it's far better than the every two hours feeds we had up until a couple of weeks ago.

If Finley does start to wake at any other point in the night I can just put out my arm and touch him and he will start to settle again although this doesn't happen often but I am sure that he is such a calm baby because of sleeping in our room.

The best part of him being in our room is when I wake; I can hear him smiling at the room and flapping his arms and all I need to do is turn my head and then the first thing I see is his huge grin.

I moved Mia into her own room when she was just under 7 weeks (last Thursday night). I dont get woken up now by her flapping her arms and legs, which was a right racket. She doesnt go longer in between feeds, but I am noticing she appears brighter and more alert - and she is much happier to comfort herself in the cot, look around and find things to occupy her time with, than she ever did in the moses basket (as you cant see out of a moses basket). I am more tired though, as I'm staying awake longer after her feeds, trying to hear if she is okay, which is silly!!!! But I'll soon grow out of it. I feel lucky that we managed to get her into her room with no dramas. Some people I've known make a big deal out of plonking the baby in their own room - and we've had no such bother.
