Subject: Breastfeeding Chairs
Hi there ladies, I'm not a regular on the family boards, but yet I am here to ask you all a massive favour. Could you give me your opinions on "breastfeeding chairs" ie... do you like them? Or do you prefer a comfortable "normal" chair such as the Ikea Poang instead? The reason I ask is I am in the process of opening a mother and baby shop and have made the discovery that in my town there are literally no breastfeeding facilities at all aside from the usual chair in a toilet job. I decided that I may invest in a few chairs etc in a nice secluded from passers by area of my shop where mothers can breastfeed in comfort instead of being forced into the toilets! Any opinions on this idea would be greatly appreciated also. Apologies for using you for my research, but as you can imagine, it's something that could seriously improve the facilities for mothers in my somewhat rubbish town. Thank you in advance

It's nice to have one that is comfy and rocks IMO. I found the Poang hard to get in and out of. I would look for cheap ones on ebay. Mine was about 100 from there. Contact your local NCT branch as Breastfeeding Awareness Week is coming up and if you're open by then (11-17th May, I think), they might wish to let people know of your facility. I would certainly used it and agree there aren't enough such facilities around - tho many cafes are much better about being breastfeeding friendly. (You can get stickers to promote yourself as such AFAIK). kateab

No recommendations I'm afraid but what a lovely idea having a nice place for mummys to sit and feed in your shop. I've had to resort to sitting in the changing rooms of some high street clothes shops before. Our Mothercare feeding room is a real chav hangout - and the Boots M&B room has closed down. Sounds like a great idea. But, I wouldn't go to too much expense. Just a nice soft chair in a clean room would be very welcome I'm sure

Great idea! Personally, I don't really like the rocking type chairs. I found that they were often too narrow to fit the baby's legs in comfortably when they were feeding, especially as they get older. They also made me feel a bit ill! Any comfy chair in a nice space would be great! Smorge x

also I was going to say that if you can stretch to a water cooler that would be a great idea. not sure if you have children, but breastfeeding makes you incredibly thirsty. Just don't make it too comfortable in there or you'll end up with a load of new mums snoozing in there to get away from the in-laws!
