Apparently the two hormones in your blood when you're pregnant should both read 1. One of my hormones came out at 2, the other at 0.2. This has apparently raised my chances for Downs syndrome, although the scan itself showed a fully developed nose and the fluid on the neck was ok.
Does anyone know more about hormone levels?!

Hi lovely, I don't know the answer to this one. Did the person who gave you the results make some suggestions? E.g. repeat blood test in a couple of days time, option of repeat scan in a couple of weeks? Other tests available if you wish (amnio). Did you have the standard Down's screener (blood test) which comes back with odds for Downs e.g. 1:2000? If that is below 1:250 it would be considered 'at risk'. Do give your midwife a ring back and talk things through and sort some next steps, nothing worse than worrying about these things.
Big hug to you and hope everything is just fine.

Thank you for your reply, I'm not too sure what it all means either. It was the standard blood test for Downs and it came back as 1 in 82. Although my scan was really positive and combined with that it came out as 1 in 510. This was done privately as there was an issue getting an NHS appointment. However, the NHS just based it on the blood alone, meaning that the last week has been a bit stressful and we've not known what to do really. Booked an amnio test for 16th but not sure i want to get it done bearing in mind the risk of miscarriage. My GP said today to discuss it with the consultant at the hospital which is what I will do, if I can get hold of him.
All a bit of a worry really - I'm only 30 so the risk seems extremely high..

The whole amnio thing is a real headache isn't it. I'm not having mine tomorrow. My placenta is at the front rather than the back making it a little bit more risky again :/ - but it is so hard not knowing until March if our baby is going to be fine or not.
Your blood test on it's own is 'at risk' but in combination with the scan it isn't anymore... amnio is 1:100 therefore more risky... really tricky isn't it. Definitely talk to the consultant. Mine was 'avoiding' straight yes and no answers as they can't guarantee anything and obviously don't want to get sued in the end.
Wish someone could just tell us straight. Good luck with making your decision, I had 2 weeks to think about mine and still feel like I'm not sure.

Thanks again - yes, the one in 100 is much higher than one in 510 but lower than one in 82. So it's difficult to know what to do. My boyfriend is very much of the thinking that we're more in control of things, i.e. decisions, if we know one way or the other. But I think what if we have the amnio and it goes wrong:(
This pregnancy wasn't planned and it's taken us the past 2 months to get used to the idea. And now all of this.
I will talk to the consultant and see what he says - although, like you, I'm sure s/he'll be full of evasive answers!
