Subject: Advice Needed Please
Hi all,

I need your expert advice regarding when I can try for a baby and receive company maternity pay!

I need to have been with my employer for 1 year, 3 months before my due date, I started my job on the 30th March this year and we want to start trying for a baby asap.

The first day of my last period was the 26th Septemeber and I have a 29 day cycle.

So my question is, when can i try for a baby ensuring that I am guaranteed to get company maternity pay?

Thanks for reading [http://community.handbag.com/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif]

O, I thought you were entitled it, from exactly when you started - ie if you got pregnant 9 months after starting, you were entitled to it.

hiya

please take this as a rough guide, I'm fairly new to it myself! For starters, I'd recommend you look at www.directgov.uk http://www.directgov.uk/ / on maternity pay and conditions.

My cycles are roughly same length as yrs and I fell on a month before you, touch wood, I'm due early June 2010. So by yr reckoning, if you are pregnant this cycle (are you trying?), you would be due early July 2010, giving you your 1 yr and 3 months by just a whisker.

The thing to check out with yr employer, I wouldve thought, is how would they deal if your baby arrived prematurely (say by a few weeks), giving you a sooner due date than they allow?

there are lots of pregnancy dating and numbering sites you can put your figures in and they will give you approx due dates based on this -and also when's good to try, tho obviously some folks find this more useful than others.

good luck xxx

Thankyou for your replies.

MM, i would be entitled to government maternity pay but I want to qualify for my works maternity pay as it is a lot more!

Mojo, I'm not trying yet as I dont want to miss qualifying by a day or so. I want to be sure that I will meet the timescale

Trustie - then you need to read the T&C from your employer. And... unless you work for the same people as I do - I can't help you.

Mis Dem, I have already read the T&C hence I know I need to have worked there for 1 year, 3 months before my due date

Been to see my GP and she has confirmed I will be okay to start TTC after this months period to qualify.
