Subject: feature writing
I work in the early years sector and have an idea for a double spread article that could be used by a trade magazine. Should I contact possible editors and ask them if they would be interested in my idea? I already have links with a couple of magazines and have provided authors for a now defunct column for one of them in the past. I would be very interested in writing more frequently (e.g. comment pieces, book reviews) so would it be worth mentioning this in my e-mail / letter to editors? I know currently if I write something work related it needs to be approved by my employer's media office and the fee would go to the organisation. What would happen if I ended up writing across a broader arena?
