Lidl's sometimes has cheap wool. Fabric can be bought quite cheaply at your local market. Pound shops may have cheap wool

Ebay! Downside is paying for postage tho... If youre near a Watt Brothers they usually have good DK wool for 99p or 6 balls for 5, ive had loads from there.

i reckon it's not really worth buying online- i used to and you face the usual stuff- expensive postage, not exactly what you were expecting, (feel is especially important with fabric and print size etc that is difficult to convey online), missed deliveries- spending good sewing time picking up oversized packages from the post office.

I say markets yup, asian fabric shops especially have amazing stuff from really plain to really ornate.

I popped into my local charity shops last week and came across a big collection of crochet bits and bobs for �2, so it might be worth trying there!

I'm just starting out so I don't want to spend lots in case I waste the wool on wonky patterns
