Subject: Cheap fabric
Hi, I was recently given a very basic sewing machine which I hope to start using pretty soon. Now, as I am a beginner, I don't necessarily want to buy fabric from John Lewis where they are quite pricey. Maybe later when I know what I am doing. Does anyone know where I can buy relatively cheap fabrics to practice my sewing skills? Either online or offline (around SE London) will do. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I don't know SE London, but if you pop on the H&C line to Goldhawk Road, there's the market and several fabric shops which are excellent. The two I used were Classic Textiles and A1 Fabrics. Enjoy:wave:

I don't know if this is of any use, but here is a list of some haberdashers in London: http://biz.fashionfizz.co.uk/Haberdashers/England/London/ You may find that some of these shops have a remnants bin, where you can pick up off-cuts of material ranging in size, type and quality. More often than not, they are cheaper than they would be 'off the roll', so great for a quick practise before you invest in a larger quantity.
