Just wondering if anyone read this? I picked it up on an impulse as I wanted to get Revolutionary road and The Curious case of Benjamin Button and other stories and there was a 3 for 2 offer, so I reckoned I'd get a free book. Any views on the two latter also welcome.

Thanks for the quick answer Wizadora! I'm glad to hear that. And I'd rather that it's sad than scmaltzy which I was a bit worried about.

Ooh I'm getting excited now! Am reading The unbearable lightness of being by Milan Kundera (which I'm loving) at the moment and it's maybe not sad but melancholic. But I'm in a stage atm where I want to read stuff that really leaves an impression rather than fun and light stuff.

A copy of this is winging it's way to me now. I have been looking at this book for about a year now on Amazon, wondering whether to get it or not. But since reading this thread I made up my mind to buy it, as it sounds really good. Thanks!

Oooh I read this a few months ago. Really enjoyed the unusual narrative. I'm not sure if I cried but definitely wanted to talk about it afterwards.

After all your comments I can't wait to read this book! Unfortunately I'm struggling with a boring book called Death in the Andes by Mario Vargas Llosa which I told myself I'd finish first

I just love The Book Thief. It's one of my all time favourites. I've given copies to a couple of people as gifts too and they've really enjoyed it too.

I've finally read this now and I did enjoy it very much. At first I didn't like the narrative, took me a chapter or so to get used to it, but then I started to really love it. Very thought provoking book, I've read a lot on this subject but this story was very original.
