I'm reading the Kite Runner at the moment and it's got me really interested in the history of Afghanistan, it sounds like it was such a beautiful country until the Russians moved in... Does anyone know of any fairly accessible books covering the history of either the country or that part of Central Asia? Thanks SB

I also very much enjoyed reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author as The Kite Runner - all seen from a women's perspective and even more affecting than The Kite Runner, I thought.
