Hey all
Ok I need some motivation I am desperate to get back into fitness but what with the cold weather and dark evenings I just can't seem to get going. I thought starting a fitness club where we can all motivate each other and post diet tips, exercise tips and how much we have exercised might help so here goes!
I started a beginners fencing course on Monday as I heard that 15 mins of fencing burns as many calories as an hour of aerobics! So that is my first tip. This course only lasts for four weeks though so I want to get into running again, anyone else have some good tips? I heard that drinking lots of water helps to burn cals is this true?

Yes drinking lots of water help but make sure its really cold. Drinking really cold ir even ice cold water means your body has to increase its metabolism as you drink which is better for burning off more calories. Bonus!

Love this blog. Its nice to have a fitness outlet to get me through gloomy January, possbily the worst month for motivation when it comes to exercise!!

I forgot to add in my last post.

I joined a rowing club before the end of last year to avoid the whole New Years Resolution thing which never works out. Sounds a bit excessive, but having the support of other people to exercise makes it so much easier. Whilst Rowing is a fantastic cardiovascular workout it really works all kinds of muscles, especially the core (Abs and back). I would highly recommend joining a team sport or getting a friend along to help motivate you......it really helps! PLus, a team sport is often a lot cheaper than ridiculous gym memberships fees and you get the social side too!

Hey there Becki, loving the fitness club.
As for the motivation, I would look at swimming over running, it is much better for you, lower impact and uses more muscle groups that pounding the pavement.
I look forward to following your progress!

I'm finding it too hard to get motivated this january and I tend not to start any diets until Feb as it is my birthday this month and I just can't bear to abstain during my birthday but I'm starting to despise my tummy roll too much to just ignore it.
So I've started by sorting out some really healthy recipes. I reckon if I can get my eating back on track - and avoid the cakes, choccie and lashings of butter I've been treating myself too that will be a good start and then for the exercise!
As I have a toddler and no other half going out to exercise is difficult not to mentione expensive once the babysitter is paid as well as the gym/class. So it's the old dvd for me but this is where motivation is required in buckets.
i've found the davina mccall dvds the best for a good half hour work out but when I'm really short of time and want to do some toning the Beach Bum workout splits the routines into 15min sections which is brill. And you can choose to just do abs, or abs and bums or whatever combination you fancy.
Once you've got off the sofa that is.
PS I find booking a holiday and getting your bikini out a good way to kick start motivation!

The Christmas hols were all about eating,
And our new diets don't allow cheating,
So to achieve weight loss,
We must become our own boss,
Or else Mr Blobby we'll all soon be meeting!

I have invested in a Wii Fit Plus, which is perfect for the dark nights when it is hard to drag yourself out of the house to the gym. It has loads of activities including hula hoop, step aerobics, yoga and balance games. Each activity will tell you how many calories you have burned. It can work out your weight and BMI and you can set yourself weight loss targets, which it will monitor for you.

Oh man, I hear you. I don't do food deprivation, so I try to do moderation. I try and eat healthy and do lots of walking during the working week and then relax a bit a weekends. However that hasn't been working so well in January so I'm now trying that Ki Fit device - it measures how many calories you've burned and then you go on the site and upload what you've had to eat and it tells you if you've consumed more than you've burned or vice versa. So, if I eat a treat at work I can then use the Ki Fit to take an extra long walk in the evening to balance it out. It also helps you set fitness and weight loss goals - you can put in how many calories you eat in an average day and it will figure out how much exercise you have to do and in what time period to burn it off. I hope to lose 4kg by end of March. I haven't started yet (computer issues) but will keep you posted!

oh i have heard that the Wii Fit is meant to be good for toning especially if you don't feel like leaving the house. I have just bough Tracy Anderson's new Mat Workout DVD which is really good for toning so i will keep you updated on progress!
