Subject: Help urgently required!! spot treatments/remedies
Apologies as this has possibly been posted lots of times, but i have developed a random spot on my cheek and urgently need it to go. Any suggestions on treatments/products remedies that help spots disappear quickly?
I also have developed really bad under the skin spots around the mouth/chin/cheek area i could cope with them but they are making my skin look quite red. never had them before and don't know how to get rid of them. My facialist suggested that they should go down but that was 3 weeks ago and they seem to be getting worse from the bad weather and constant heating on at work.

Any suggestions for both problems are really welcomed.

Thanks
Traceuk

I think the best thing I've ever used - and that includes brands like Dermalogica and Origins - is actually a really cheap one....it's a brand called 'Witch Doctor', you can get their medicated gel in a couple of quid. You don't have to apply a lot, just a dab two or three times a day at most and it really does work.

Thanks for the quick reply, I am going to have to try it and it is definitely worth a try for that price. Is there anything you recommend for preventing spot outbrakes?

I think us ladies will always be susceptible to hormonal spot outbreaks, however careful you are (it's interesting that you say your outbreaks are around your mouth and chin - I read somewhere ages ago that if you get spots around your chin/temples/forehead then they're probably hormonal - anywhere else and it's down to external factors). And if that's the only area you get outbreaks then I wouldn't have thought it was down to the heating/aircon/cold weather - otherwise they wouldn't be confined to one area.

Otherwise I'd say from personal experience:
don't overload skin with products (it's easy to be tempted with all the things they advertise these days)
- never introduce more than one new product at a time,
- exfoliate once or twice a week,
- and make sure you get ALL your makeup off if you wear foundation etc; I use a foaming cleanser but it's not enough to get all my workday makeup off...if I use only my cleanser, I can see leftover makeup on the towel when I dry my face. I use a Simple brand skin wipe first, to get most of it off, and then the foaming cleanser.

Hope this helps!

That's helpful to know that it may not be something that i am doing wrong and is more than likely something I am not able to completely control.
I think overloading my skin is the worst mistake; I'm kind to my skin when it's having a good week. Then as soon as i get any kind of blemish i begin the product overloading trying to repair it as quickly as possible and end up making it more irritated.
Have just recently discovered that my face wipes in the evening haven't been removing all of the make up from the day, do you recommend toning too after cleansing in an evening?
Have you discovered what cleansers and moisturisers are best for your skin? Think I've had difficulty finding the one. I try a product that works and then find that part way through using it it stops working as well. Do you think it needs to be like shampoo and conditioner and to have abreak from your usual products ever now again?
Thanks for all your help on this one, really great advice and I will definitely be picking up some witch gel tomorrow to start trying.

You might want to see your GP about this. I used to have acne, and I found that a combination of antibiotics, topical medication and using only mild products on my skin (washing with mild soap rather than a medicated cleanser for example) worked for me. Sometimes things like Clearasil can actually make the inflammation worse!

Also, if you're finding that a cleansing wipe isn't getting all your makeup off, try double cleansing. I wear quite a lot of makeup sometimes, so I use a cleansing milk or cream, wiped off with cotton wool and/or warm water, followed by a mild face wash, and that seems to get everything off Then tone and moisturise to finish.

Dr Hauschka all the way - read about his stuff on the web.
No exfoliating the skin !! Its about letting your skin do what it should be doing naturally,.
Basically, we all have an acid mantle on the layer of our skin and when we remove it, by harsh cleanser etc, then we remove its protection. And all those anto aging and hydrating products confuse the skin and body.

There is not one single person I have met with skin conditions, that this regieme did not figure out and correct - even the most hardened case of adult acne.

Read about it, on line and see what you think.....
Well dang, I found my original profile and sign in ! Tis me !

I may not always be right.... but I'm never wrong.

I think frequent switching between different products/brands can't be any good - your skin will constantly be trying to get used to different products and you'll confuse it. I've made it a rule for some years now never to introduce more than one new product at a time, and it's always served me well. So if you switch products when you get any spots, you'll just confuse your skin and make it all worse!

Personally if I only use wipes or only a cleanser, it never seems to quite get all my makeup off ; I use a wipe first, then my foaming cleanser, then moisturise (Neals Yard moisturiser in the morning, Protect & Perfect Night cream before bed). I don't use toner and I don't believe my skin suffers for it.

As for which products to use, it's down to trial and error - what suits one person (eg Dr Haushka for poster Mr Mainwaring, Neals Yard/Protect & Perfect for me) might not suit you. And don't expect instant results! A few years ago I used Dermalogica and it took literally months to see a difference (but it was worth it).

Thanks for all your advice. I think i'll definitely be going to see my GP about the troublesome ones that don't seem to go down, hopefully the combination of antibiotics and my new skincare regime will help clear them quicker and keep them at bay. You may be right diddymac, think I may be over-doing the exfoliating currently. I had always thought that it was clearing away all the dead skin cells keeping spots and dry skin at bay when I'm not giving my skin chance to recover to provide the protection it needs. Still feel that I need to do it at least once a week though to get rid of any dry skin patches that seem to appear. I've had a read online about the Dr Hauschka products and regime and it looks really good. So confused to what products I need to invest in I'm going to go shopping and get some testers to try out to see what works best for my skin but will try them one at once and give them chance to work. I must say a special thanks to Trace for all your really helpful advice, and the Witch Doctor Gel is amazing! Brought some Tuesday on my way home from work, applied that night and twice yesterday and today and the spot has almost gone, it has really reduced in size and redness. I have also told all my friends about my new bargain miracle cream and they all buying it too to try.

Awww, no worries, glad the gel worked for you too! I've tried Dermalogica's medicated clearing booster which if I recall correctly was over 20, and a similar product by Origins for about 11, and the Witch Doctor gel is better than both of them!

Hi, I'v had problems for years with skin breakouts and under skin spots and lumps and have tried most over counter/cosmetic treatments but by far the best thing I'v tried came from my G.P and is a dab on liquid antibiotic with added zinc called Zyneryt. Obviously it's prescription only but that's cheaper than alot of over the counter stuff, only drawback it it only last 4-5 weeks once it's mixed up ( chemist mixes the antibiotic powder with a liquid stuff when it's dispensed), it's available in 30mg and 90mg depending on where on the body you need to use it e.g large amounts for using on the back or shoulders. Also because you use it topically you don't fill your body with antibio's and so don't get all the usual problems with killing off your good bugs. It's not oily or drying on the skin and for me it really has worked wonders.

Yeah, I've used that Zineryt stuff when I was younger - it did the trick on the zits but I have dry skin and it made it worse. It smells horrible too! I've got this stuff called Duac from the docs, as I get terrible scarring off any spots whether I pick or not.

I was hoping to have grown out of this by 26 but hey ho!

I would recommend using L'oreal Renoviste Anti- Ageing Glycolic Peel Kit. Its a 3 step treatment and is quite mild so doesnt cause any irritation. It really works.
I notice the following morning after using this that any spots I had have almost completely vanished. This also sorts out uneven skin tone, leaving you with radiant clear skin.
