Can anyone help with this!
A publishing company has been sending me letter to pay for something that i don't know anything about.
I ignored a lot of the letters they sent,
But now have received a letter asking me to pay 195 for what i don't know.
I have not signed anything with the company,
where do i stand.?

Why are you ignoring it? Surely the place to start is to call them and ask them, tell them they must have made a mistake. It may be easy to figure out.

If you haven't signed a contract, then you still have a legal right not to pay. My advice to you, is that you go to your local citizens advice bureaux and bring the letters with you. They can help you settle this debt or even write it off. You do have legal rights in this situation. But don't ignore the problem: burying your head in the sand won't make the problem go away! Also, do make sure you keep a copy of these letters. Good luck.

I have contacted this company via phone they did not email me back.
They say that my husband agreed to placing an advert in the fire service advert mag,
My husband says he did not agree to pay 195,
I told the company this and they say that they have got it on tape that my husband agreed.
They did not send us any proofs of this magazine,so i have requested they send me on out.Yes they have sent it out and the advert placed in this supposed magazine is so childish it looks like a high school kid has done it.
We would not be happy for an advert of my husbands business to be placed in this manner to any magazine.
I am now going to get advice from citizens advice,But we have not seen proof of the advert before hand or more to the point signed any contract with this advertising company.
So i am quite confident this company cannot take us to court.

I have contacted this company via phone ,they are an advertising company and have said that my husband agreed over the phone for this company to place an advert in the fire services magazine,my husband said he did not agree to pay 195,we got caught up by another company doing the same thing and thought it was the same company ,paid the other company 85 for advert in the fire services book and have had not book sent to us.
This company demading money have sent us this so called booklet which we are not happy with the advert anyway, they did not send us any proofs for our approvel,we have not signed any contracts with them either.
I will go to the citizen advice over this matter.

I suggest you both to meet them personally and find out exactely what proofs they have,, try to sort out the issue then and there..if the issue does not get settled then better consult local citizens advice bureaux.

Hi

I had a similar issue a few years ago and know a few other businesses that have been through it.

We had a publisher calling asking if we wanted to have some books printed for drug awareness for schools with our advert in them. I remember during the phone call I said that I wasn;t interested but they were persistent and I kept saying no.

A few weeks later they call again asking for payment, the books have been printed on our behalf with out advert on them. I said I didn't agree to anything but they were adamant I had agreed to it.
After numerous calls they agreed to drop it and made up some excuse that there was an admin error and the books hadn't been printed yet so we didn;t have to pay.

They were just trying to pull a fast one

Are you by law allowed to ask for a copy of any recorded phone messges with your voice on? I think that is right, but I'm not sure...

I have been to seek legal advice and they told me to contact the police to see if the book they had published was for the police and fire services which the police knew nothing about.
We have recieved a letter from a debt collecting company now wanting us to pay 220.
They have called us demanding we pay and have said if we don't they are going to take us to the small claims courts,They said they have got my husband on tape,i asked for a copy of the tape and he refused saying he could not give it to me because the other company gave it to them.
So we will have to go to court and state our case if it gets that far.
I can't meet these people because there address are P O boxes.??
