I have just spent the last hour on various websites trying to get an insurance quote. Basically, I have just started to learn to drive and I want to practice in my partner's car. I also have several friends who have offered to take me out. How does insurance work? Can I buy cover that will insure me for any car I drive? Can you point me in the direction of companies that provide this? Everytime I get a quote it is asking me questions as if I have my own vehicle that I want to insure. :cmdunno:

Funny you should mention buying a cheap car...I was planning on getting something for under �500 for my daughter next year when she turns 17. Does anyone know which cars are the cheapest to insure? I'd prefer to insure it in her name so, like planningmyescape, she can start building up her NCD. I guess there could be some flexibility on the price if, say, a �1000 car saved us �500 on the insurance somehow.

Also, have you got any advice on the best insurance companies or insurance brokers for young drivers?
