I had one a few years ago. I loved driving it. It was like %&*$# off a shovel.
The only problem was that it always sounded as though the choke was stuck out. The engine was always racing. From a total standstill, I could put it into first, then second then third without even touching the accelerator. I kept trying to tell them at Ford but they wouldn't take any notice of me. (I have always found that garages try and rip women on their own off in my experience).
Consequently it cost a fortune in petrol.
I know they have the reputation of being economical, but mine wasn't at all.
Having said all that. I think mine was just a bad one, and I would have one again.
its going pretty well thanks. there was one thing i needed sorting soon after buying but it was still under warantee (just!) so that was fine. ive noticed the engine thing although its nowhere near as bad as yours, but its rather noisy/whiny sometimes. my petrol costs are fine though and im glad i can get about 280 miles per tank which is better than my last car.
however i think for a 1.3 engine its not that zippy from go, iyswim. i might think about trading it in a year or so for a bigger engine, not sure yet.
