Subject: Worried...Time off sick
Ive been at my present job for 6 years and hardly had any time off sick. I only work 2 days a week, recently I have been having bad water infections which keep me awake all night and last for a few days and they seem to happen when im due to go to work unfortunatly, so Ive been taking more time off work for about the last 4 months, maybe one or two days off per month. Im really worried that im going to loose my job over this, is this possible? Thanks

Could it be stress related FunkySlipper?

And by water infections do you mean cystitis? I can tell you how I cured my attacks if that's what it is?

Maybe you need to talk to your manager about it if you're worried.

Aww FunkySlipper, I don't think they'll mind if you're really poorly. Especially not if you're not the sort of person who is usually off. Maybe just talk to them about it?

I entirely sympathise; I spent 2 years having haematuria, cystitis and 'unspecified bladder and kidney infection' (according to rubbish doc) every month or two, and I take meds every day now to stop it happening again. You definitely get a hug from me for what you're suffering.

I'd love to know, I get cystitis frequently, have done for the last two years, would be great to hear how you cured them. Sorry if O/T

Has your supervisor said anything to you about this? If it's an issue, what usually happens is that you first pick up a vibe that people are unhappy, then it proceeds to being told verbally in an appraisal (or other one-to-one chat) that they are concerned about the sickness, and then they usually request info from the doctor to check you are really ill. Finally they give you a written warning, before they finally sack you. At least that's how the procedures work in large companies - they go through the process detailed above so that you can't then take them to an employment tribunal over unfair dismissal.

I'm not quite sure how these things work at small companies - they are more informal, but sometimes more ruthless and will get rid of you on another pretext.

I would go and see your doctor about your water infections, so that at least the doctor has a record about your illness (plus the doctor should be able to help medically - no use suffering in silence when they can probably prescribe something that can help you).

Talk to your boss about your concern, they are human also and get sick so I'm sure they will understand.
