Subject: Drastic career change into handbag design or styling
Hi everyone,
I currently work in an office job- the pay is ok and the company is well known in its sector but I have realised that it’s not for me. I need to do something creative and am considering a drastic career change... I’ve always had an eye for fashion, particularly handbags. I love looking at how a handbag can seriously transform an outfit. I also love the way that it can have such a positive effect on people, instantly making someone feel sexy and more confident. I know that might sound a tad bit cheesy!
Anyhow, for some time I have been considering a career in styling or handbag design. I know it’s a competitive industry to get into, but I’ve always wanted to do something creative and handbag design was something that I would have loved to pursue. Instead, I went with ‘safer’ options as my degree and career path and here I am feeling that I need a change. I’m 28 and feel that life is passing me by, it’s almost like it’s now or never.
I wouldn’t be able to leave my current job at the moment as I need a secure income, but I would definitely like to start planning for the change.
I have no previous experience of the industry and would consider a short course in handbag design and/or personal styling. I know they are two separate things but I would like to dip into a bit of both.
I wondered if anyone on the Bag is currently in the handbag or personal styling area of the fashion industry at the mo and could offer some advice on this?
Also, has anyone else taken a big leap in changing their careers? Is anyone in the industry at the moment or has anyone made such a huge change? Is 28 too late to getting into the handbag design or personal styling industries?
