It's a slow process this isn't it? It's over 30 since the Equal Pay Act and Sex Discrimination legislation. Here's the news item, today, that reminded me of this issue:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6904434.stm The Equal Oppotunties Commission Annual Sex and Power index looks at women's representation in senior positions across the public and private sector. Three decades on from the sex discrimination act it reports that at the current rate of progress it will take:
20 years to achieve equality in civil service top management 40 years to achieve an equal number of senior women in the judiciary and up to 200 years to achieve an equal number of women in parliament - and there's much more!
This index is obviously just about the top jobs but it throws up lots of questions for us about women's progress in this and every other sphere. What do you think about women's position some thirty years after the Sex Discrimination Act (SDA)?
