Subject: Gender-specific toys – a good idea?
I always get quite annoyed when I see all those "gender specific" toys on offer, especially in catalogues or when I watch TV ads - boys play with toy trains and soldiers, girls have pink kitchens and dolls. My favourite toys were Matchbox cars and my toy train, while my brother did have a favourite doll - what are your experiences?

I used to dismember dolls as a child and played with Lego, although I did also like My Little Ponies. I think it's parents who are more focused on the 'gender' of toys - kids will amuse themselves with anything put in front of them.

That said, some kids will naturally gravitate towards pink or blue as much as others will avoid it like the plague, no matter what their parents think!

I don't like gender-specific toys as a rule, although as children get older they generally tend to get drawn towards toys aimed at their own gender.

I bought our son a tea set (complete with a tray!) for his 3rd Christmas, my husband was horrified and told me that it was a waste of money, and so on... It was one of the cheapest presents he had that year and the one he played with and loved the most... go figure!

Well guess it just goes to show it's all preconceived ideas LOL - and how could I forget my Lego, Aestivalis - think one time we used it to build a stage for my brother's Barbie to perform on
