Subject: How long would you wait before contacting?
Hi, just looking for some advice about a job I applied for.

A friend of my dad's has his own business, and has recently expanded (it was just him working from home, now he's doing well he's got an office and wants to employ staff). During a conversation with my dad before christmas, it was mentioned that I was looking for full time work and he said to get me to give him a call as he was looking for an office manager, which is similar to what I already do, but I only work part time. This guy also knows me, and I also get on well with his wife (we're all members of the same sports club)

I phoned him and we had a conversation about the company and the role, and he asked what I do now, how much I was earning, how much notice I have to give etc. It was all really positive and the way he was talking about the role was as if I'd already got it, not that I was just a candidate. He even asked if I'd be able to do part time work for him until I'd worked my notice. I went to his office last Tuesday to discuss it further and it again went well, it wasn't an interview as such, more of an informal chat. He seemed impressed by what I do now and ended it by saying he'd get back to me by the end of the week, or early this week at the very latest. I haven't heard anything from him since, and not really sure what to do. Even if he's decided I'm not right for the role, I'd appreciate a call letting me know. I know he's really busy as like I said he's currently running the whole business by himself and one of the reasons he's looking for an office manager is so he can focus more on the job rather then admin tasks etc.

It's a bit awkward because I do know him and I don't want to hassle him, but I don't know how long to leave it. We didn't discuss money at the meeting as I was waiting to see what would happen, maybe he's trying to work out pay, and other details first as he hasnt had staff before, before he contacts me? How long would you leave it, or would you contact him?

I'm bound to see him at the club at some point anyway, so it's not like I'm going to avoid him, so the longer it gets left or if no contact is made, it's going to make it really awkward when I do eventually see him

G x
