I'm a registered organ donor, which I'd hope would do the job of my card as I lost that a long time ago. But whether you carry a card or not, it can be overruled by your family, which I personally thing is wrong...
But yes, in my opinion, if it doesn't conflict with your personal or religious beliefs then carrying a donor card is the best thing you can do. The idea of helping someone live after my death is a wonderful thing to me.

My mum has always had a big thing against donor cards so while I was living with her I never thought about it much... but now, I am a registered donor, and hope that I can help someone after I'm gone.

I'm also on the organ donor register and carry a card. I would like someone to live in the event of my death. I've been on the register since 1995. I do hope my family won't override my wishes. But I don't think they can: at least, I hope not.

I am also registered and carry a donor card. I hadn't realised that family members could over-ride that decision, but I'm sure if the situation was to arise then I know they would all respect my choice. I do think there is something wrong with possibility of your wishes not being carried out and I think something should be done to prevent that from happening.

I'm also a registered donor. I didn't think it was possible for family members to go against your wishes, although I'm not 100% on that.
I'd like to think that some of my organs could help to save someone else's life, it's a wonderful gift to give someone the chance of a better life after you've gone.
Which is quite a relief. A few years ago (well, okay, probably a decade ago now) there was a spate of people's wishes being overridden by their families which I found quite upsetting - I'm sure their families would accept an organ if they needed it!
Although I'd be interested to know what the 'cases where it would be inappropriate' are...
