Subject: Free-range poultry
Due to the worrying reports of the use of copious antibiotics and all those luverly MRSA bacteria living on a lot of those yummy chicken pieces I buy in the supermarket, I'm wondering whether to switch to free-range meat (even if I'm vegetarian myself and it's "only" for my OH ) - what do you think, is it worth the expense?

I'd say definitely - I only by free range meat as though I'm a meat eater I refuse to eat battery or extensively reared produce. It tastes more chickeny as well, rather than being pumped full of water and other stuff to plump it up!

I always try to avoid battery poultry, it always seems to taste insipid and I feel a bit queasy knowing where it's come from. I'd say it's worth the expense! Also, like alicefalling says, the better quality the chicken the less likely it is to be plumped up with water - cheaper pieces, like cheap bacon, just seem to ooze water everywhere until it's a horrible greasy mess...

Free-range chicken is worth the money. They are a lot more healthy and produce nicer meat. Plus, they aren't treated cruelly. Battery chickens aren't quite as good, so I'd spend the extra few pounds. Plus, you're helping improve the humane treatment of animals.
