Well all that "new start" feeling has made us decide we want to redo our kitchen and I was just wondering if there's any paint particularly well suited to kitchen? It does get rather steamy and damp someimes in there.

Hey, i recently painted my kitchen, even the kitchen table
I found that a high gloss colour is the best option, if you want to keep humidity from your walls. But I heard that it also emphasizes any irregularities of your wall. I didn't try it out because of this. There are many other kinds of paint you can use, depending on the surface and what it's used for. Here's a list of the different possibilities

oookay, I just posted, like three times. I honestly didn't mean to. The posts just didn't show up at all until now. I can edit them, but not entirely delete them.
This is very strange

To stay On Topic: What are you looking to paint? All the walls, or the cabinets? As I said before, the colour depends on the surface. You should also consider what effects you want to acchieve: Modern or romantic, maybe something really bright?

Thanks for that bottomlessbag, that's very helpful and gives me something to choose from - I'm thinking of mainly painting the walls, as we've got "natural wood" cabinets, and also do the skirting boards/door surrounds. And as to the link posted 3 times, it's now disappeared (and it's happened to me before LOL)

If you are committed to paint, try a good quality semi-gloss which will stand up to washing and moisture better than flat finish paints.

The kitchen in the house I bought a little over four years ago had been remodeled right before I moved in. The area behind the stove is tiled, it looks great and it's easy to clean with hot, soapy water -- grease and cooking splatters won't mar or discolor the surface. I have friends who had a sheet of stainless steel mounted on the wall behind their stove -- it works well, too.
