With flying getting ever more expensive, are there any good tips out there how to save money?

You can use following methods to reduce the cost.
-Try to find less expensive destination. Air fares to different destinations differ. So choose less expensive destination. You can find a destination to meet your need for a lesser price. You have to research a lot.
-You can visit your destination in off season. The cost of traveling is less in off-season. Also sometimes flying on a weekend cost more than a weekday.
-It is very important to buy travel insurance before leaving. If you are traveling with a group, buy group travel insurance . It will save you a lot.
-Some websites offer last minute deals for a very less cost. Keep your eye on such promotions.

You can find a cheap hotel or hostel to save money. Some small hotels and hostels will go under %&*$#20 per night.

Besides booking well in advance? Check out Kayak.com to compare current rates. And like Mailly suggested, try to cut down on lodging costs if you can since it's unlikely the price of flying is going to go down. Check out http://www.boutique-homes.com if you need inspiration. The Chic and Cheap section is quite useful.

Did you try Easyjet?

Try becoming a member of one of the airlines. Sometimes they offer fantastic deals to their members and it's generally free to join. When you receive e-mail notification of a amazing deal, you can make plans around that (especially useful if you have kiddies flying back and forth from a distant university...)
