I personally find little gel insoles for the front of your shoes quite helpful, they provide a bit of a cushion.

Yes the gel inserts can help - whereabouts is the pain you're getting? My feet are a little wide at the toe-end so high heels can be very painful to wear. I've found that trying brands of wider-fitting shoes help a lot, some of the high-street and designer brands cripple me!
