Subject: Can I ask for some advice please?
I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask for this advice but I wasn't sure where else it might fit and I'm a bit stuck.

I've just started going to counselling, which I have told one of my friends about (as she actually suggested it after I had a bit of an emotional outburst). Now my friend has asked if I can let her know the name of my counsellor so she can go too.

I know it's all confidential and everything but still it doesn't sit easily with me that she might go to the same counsellor as me, especially as sometimes I talk about her.

If anyone has any advice on how I can say no to her it would be much appeciated. What would be a good reason (as I can't say the real one!) to say no? Or if you think I'm being a bit silly and should just give her the name of my counsellor please feel free to say!

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it being the same counseller flower.. they wouldn't mention you at all even if you were brought up.

I agree with RealDeal, there's no way that your counsellor would discuss you or your reason for seeing them with anyone else who goes to see them. I would give her the name

I agree with the others. Everything you say to the counsellor is confidential, but if it really worries you, speak to the counsellor about it and see if they can't give you a name of a collegue that you can pass to your friend.

I agree with the others about asking for a recommendation, but I did want to say that even though I know rationally that your counsellor would never discuss you with her (or her with you!), I know how you feel because I think I'd feel uncomfortable with a friend seeing the same counsellor too. It's important that you feel comfortable seeing them and not that you need to censor yourself, so I don't think you're being silly.
