Subject: Was I wrong to tell a staff member that they nearly smashed into my car?
Driving into work the other day and I was going right at a mini roundabout, anyway as I was turning right a car from my left handside going straight over the roundabout came speeding passed me forcing me to brake. I was left shaken by the incident. Anyway I sen him in the car park and went over to him and politely told him what he had done. I don't know why I did it but I was so shaken at the speed he was going for a 30mph zone that I didn't want him to nearly cause another accident again. He aplogised and said he didn't realise. I said I was just making him aware of his speed. I walked into work legs like jelly and couldn't compose myself. I work for a huge company so don't know who he was but I feel I shouldn't have said anything. I never lost my temper or used foul words, I just remained calm.
I am now worried he can report me for confronting him?

Doesn't sound like he'd report you if he just apologised and said he didn't realise?? He probably feels bad at shaking you up.

I would have thought he won't spend more than that morning thinking about it. Why do you feel like he might report you? Plus, if you don't know who he is and it's such a huge company, how would be know who you are?

WOW The point until he said he didn't realise I could have remained calm, but after that I'd of been hitting the roof. How can you not realise what speed you're driving around a roundabout? atleast have the decency to own up to it!

You had every right to tell him, & hopefully he will realise what a tool he's being. Just like you have every right to get him to pay if he had hit you!!

pfft, some people!

The fact you were calm and didn't swear at him is incredibly commendable in the face of his "I didn't realise" comment...

Don't worry about him reporting you - if you and he don't know each other he shouldn't have any way to, and anyway he is the one who's done wrong here!

I hope you're feeling a bit better now, things like that can really shake you up...

He was clearly in the wrong!!! You had every right to tell him and he apologised so that was good. Don't think you have anything to worry about.

I went to drive into my parking bay at work once just as 'someone else' was driving into it too. There were about 10 companies working in the same building and each company had allocated bays and certain people within each company had an allocated space - everyone knew this. It could have been anyone within a 10 floor building and I had previously had to speak to security about people being in my bay before. So, this particular morning I was running late and had had enough so I swore at them and v signed. They hastely backed out and reversed into another bay instead.

It turned out it was THE Financial Director of the company, OMG, I never liked him anyway, however - oops - out of all the people!!!!!!! My heart sank as I thought of all the effort I'd put in recently and my proposal for a payrise. I saw him in the kitchen in our office 10 mins later and redfaced apologised immediately as you can imagine. He told me he just chanced parking there anyway as it was an unplanned visit and could guess the particular phraseology coming out of my mouth and that he'd be annoyed too if it had happened to him. He then apologised and that was that. I kinda liked him a bit better after that - lol!!!! Got my pay rise too!!!!!

Sometimes you get a lot more respect for speaking up instead of being meek and mild so you don't upset anyone - especially important people. I think they value the particular 'nerve' you have as that's how they probably got to where they were themselves. You remained calm and unabusive which although I was in my car with the windows up, was more than I did. Don't worry!!! Feel proud that you stuck up for yourself instead of feeling how you did you doing nothing about it.

I doubt very much he would have any grounds to do so.

Otherwise well done for doing a brave and very correct thing. Too many people drive without taking account of the circumstnaces or thought for others. All too often they feel protected by the anonimity of the road and safe within their steel cacoons. This chap will have had a real wake up call that ill considered, dangerouse driving can be noted by those who know us and brought to our attention.

No I am not going to pretend this one incident alone will curb his behaviour, but it will be one part that adds to the 'be considerate' side of his brain when making decisions on the road in future.

Well done.
