It's next month, eek! Is anyone planning on doing it and, if you are, do you have any idea what you're going to be writing?

I must admit, I've always been wanting to do something like that, but never quite got my courage up. Worst thing I ever did in this regard was joining a "creative writing" Adult Education course - run by a somewhat dispirited (unsuccessful) writer herself, who seemed to be putting everything and everyone down, sigh.

I'll admit that I've never joined a writing group - the idea of them kind of scares me!

As a way of getting the idea down on paper, I really recommend it! I've done it for a few years now and for a while it was probably the only writing I did each year. I wrote so many stories that would've never otherwise seen the light of day (although you could argue that was for good reason ) and it's actually a lot of fun too. Particularly if you reward yourself with something at the end.

It's funny, when the only pressure is to write quantity, not quality, it gets a LOT easier to do it. Quality can come with editing, but you can't edit what's not there.

My girlfriends aunt participated in this last year around this time. It's an easy way (if you have alot of free time) to really sink your teeth (no excuses) into that novel you have "always wanted to write."

Basically you just start writing and aim for certain number of words per day if I remember right

youravgjoe, did your gf's aunt try it this year too? Did she complete it?

I got over 50,000 words, and I'm probably going to rewrite that and continue with it. I really enjoyed writing it!

I don't write novels: just short stories. I love writing and am addicted to Mircosoft WORD! My next project is about an angel, but I won't give any more away! It has an interesting plot that would definitely appeal to most people. It has a horror element, but that's all you need to know for now! But I would like to attend a creative writing class. I feel I have enough experience and material to go to such a class. It should start in September. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you! Well, I finished writing my short story. I haven't edited it yet, though. It turned out quite well and all the pieces of the plot fit together. But it isn't the world's longest short story (a contradiction, to be sure). Still, quality is more important than quantity, as already said. I am very pleased with it!

CyberCandyGirl I've read short stories that have been more like novellas. As long as you enjoyed writing it and you think you've finished it, the length doesn't matter, IMO.

Are you going to try to get it published at all?

I don't know. I may just pass it around for various people to read. It would be exciting to see my work in print, though! I would like to write more stories before considering this, however.
