Subject: probs with driving instructor
I've had 30 lessons with my driving instructor now, one a week, and he says I am doing really well, have got my test in 6 weeks.
However, I am thinking of changing instructors but could really do with some advice first.
We are around the same age(early 30s) he is Asian and I am white. I find him really difficult to chat to, he is very secretive and wont give anything away about hmself and I am finding this really irritating as its made me feel uncomfortable with him. I dont really feel like I can ask him questions about himself, he just seems to want to keep things strictly on the lesson. I dont know if this is cultural or if I should have asked him more about himself in the earlier lessons. He knows a lot about me as I have been quite open but he never says much in response!! Do people think I am being silly and should put up with it or swap instructors? He lives on my road and am worried he will see me with a new instructor hahaha! I know he has two kids and lives with his family but never mentions a wife/girlfriend and some lessons he has been very moody. Help!

I wouldn't rock the boat this close to your test - you're potentially only going to see him for another six lessons if you maintain one a week. If him being quiet bothered you that much you should have changed earlier I think.

Are you taking the test in your instructor's car? If nothing else, a new instructor may have a different model which will throw you on test day. It's better to stick with what you've built the experience up with.

I had lots of instructors because I moved a lot before I took my test and I can honestly say they're all different. It IS up to personal preference what you prefer but I don't think you can demand he tell you stuff about himself. Him being quiet might also have helped you concentrate better while you learned the ropes.

Anywhoo - good luck for your test! You won't have to see him again after six weeks if things go well

Hi loulou3000, that is really good advice, thanks! I will be taking the test in his car and I hadn't considered that about having to get used to another instructor's car. I am nervous about the test but I guess it makes sense to finish off with him now having come so far already. Hope I pass first time and can say goodbye lol!
