I personally like cats, because they don't seem to depend on you for so many things, while my husband likes dogs? Any preferences there?

I like both, but am a cat person really as they aren't as much of a tie. Nothing more relaxing than stroking a cat and listening to them purr

I love walking my neighbour's dog when we dog-sit during their hols though.

Pros and cons with both I guess.

I like both but I'd say that I maybe just prefer cats a little more. I prefer their more independent spirit and the fact they don't need to be almost glued on to me all the time like my dogs seem to think they do...

Sounds about right about cats being more independent, that's what I love about our cat (although she still cannot open her own tins! OR the cat flap, she insists on us opening the door for her - on the other hand, that's probably one of her little tricks )

I used to be a cat person only, didn't really take to some dogs...but then I got my own, and he's so lovely you just resist his wee face!

I like both! I've only got a cat atm, but hope to have a dog again one day soon

Dogs are far too dependent and that would annoy me after a while. My friends have recently got a dog and they can't do anything without considering what to do about the dog- if they go out they have to make sure they don't get home too late etc.

You can let a cat get on with whatever it wants to do, and if it wants some attention it will come to you. They don't need constant entertainment.
