Subject: Sensible detox
Has anyone got any sensible detox solutions without going down the drinking green tea and eating beetroot. Everything I read seems a bit extreme and would love some tips on things you can do every day to keep yourself cleansed. (I know about drinking water, but what else?)

Hello SheBGB, have you haerd of Oil Pulling? Its an Ayurvedic remedy that is very easy to follow.

Taken from Wikipedia "Oil pulling or oil swishing, in alternative medicine, is a traditional Indian folk remedy that involves swishing oil in the mouth for claimed oral and systemic health benefits. It is mentioned in the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita where it is called Kavala Gandoosha / Kavala Graha.[1] It is also used to reduce enamel wear from stomach acid from vomiting."

The practitioner rinses the mouth with approximately one tablespoon of oil (sesame and sunflower oils are the most recommended) for 15–20 minutes on an empty stomach (before eating/drinking) then spits it out.

This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. The oil is put in the mouth, with chin tilted up, and slowly swished, sucked, chomped and pulled through the teeth. The oil changes from yellow and oily consistency to a thick viscous consistency. A second round of oil pulling may be done with fresh oil for further cleansing. The oral cavity is then thoroughly rinsed and washed with normal tap water and fingers or tooth brush. This procedure is typically performed daily.

I do oil pulling everyday, the moment I wake up, I rinse my mouth and then put 1 tbsp of sesame oil into my mouth and swish for about 5 mins (never swallow!) When I spit out the oil, it is a milky white colourwhich shows that all the "toxins" have been removed.

Very effective!

Hot water with fresh lemon Lemon is very cleansing and I've always felt better when I've had a few days of drinking that (along with a balanced diet) and stayed away from coffee, wine and fizzy drinks.

It's the 'staying away from fizzy drinks' part that I alway find hard! I'm somewhat addicted to coke and pepsi... but as of this morning, there is no coke in the house and I'm not buying anymore until Christmas! (roll on the withdrawal symptoms :P )

Hi SheBGB,
It's tough - I agree! I normally fall off the wagon at the weekends but here's what I do in the week:
* Have lemon, honey and hot water in the morning (instead of tea or coffee - lemon is very cleansing).
* Have a coffee one or two days a week but not every day.
* Try a glass of fizzy water instead of coke if you're really desperate (some people will say it still causes bloating but the main thing is that it doesn't have all that sugar in it).
* Avoid wheat. I don't do this really strictly (ie I still have gravy etc) but I do buy wheat-free bread and biscuits.
* Get your 5 fruit n veg a day!

It's not TOO boring... but I will still enjoy a couple of mince pies this Christmas

Good luck!
