Subject: Dog is constantly itching - not fleas!
Hiya,

I adopted a gorgeous %&*$# spaniel two months ago. Everything is great but for the past month she cannot stop itching herself all over - been to the vets and it's not fleas. I was told to change her food so now she's on some expensive organic stuff from Canada (Acana).

Still nothing. I'm thinking she has allergies, need to take her to the vet again but thought Id ask around on here.

Does your pet have allergies? If so, what did you do? I read online you can give animals the tablets humans take to control their allergies so I did that for a week, and I THINK things slightly improved but she was still itching.

Heeeelp! It's driving me crazy, she does it through the night and she's scratching so hard that her back leg thumps into the floor repeatedly like Thumper!

Thanks in advance

changing her diet is a good place to start - I suggest Royal Canin sensitivity control which is easily digestible and very natural. I used this for ages with my dog when she was having a few problems with her glands and tummy. Keep the diet as simple and unprocessed as possible. A good cheaper alternative is Chappie dog food as it has very simple ingrediants.

Keep treats natural, like a bit of boiled chicken and rice and steer clear of processed treats, for example denta-stix.

Also go back to the vet and see if they could reccomend a nice soothing shampoo to help alliviate the itching.

Hope this helps!

You can try an oatmeal based soap to alleviate itching or Emu Oil soap which I find is great for moisture and treatment for fleas and ticks. Any moisture will probably help this problem as it sounds like it isn't just diet. A de-humidifier for your home as in winter their skin gets very dry. I have a cat and use both of these things I find it helps a lot I hope it helps you.
