Subject: Flatmates moving out but they owe bills money
Hi, my friend has two flatmates who have been an absolute nightmare. They haven't paid towards the household bills for months and months. The bills are in joint names for all three of them. My friend has tried to get her name taken off the account or to be able to have it recognised that she has paid her own share, but the companies won't allow this.
My friend has now found out her two flatmates are moving out soon (they planned to do so behind her back - she is going on holiday soon and they were going to move out while she was away - but my friend's landlord told her). She has got to find two new flatmates to replace them before she goes on holiday. My friend is very worried that her old flatmates won't pay what they owe on the bills before they move out. My friend has been paying money to one of the flatmates towards one bill, but she has now been told by the bill company that it hasn't been paid. This means her flatmate has been stealing my friend's money and keeping it for herself!
Does anyone know what she could do to make them pay?
The fact that they are moving out and she's getting new flatmates will be a new start, but my friend doesn't want to be saddled with their debts as the bill companies will just chase her. What can she do?
