I thought I would inject a little life into this area of the boards! Does anyone have a favourite band they've seen live? Are you into festivals or do you prefer intimate gigs?

The genre doesn't matter, any live performances count!

Ooh... so many!

The Strokes at Reading Festival, Flaming Lips at Glastonbury, Muse at numerous locations, Regina Spektor at V Festival, The White Stripes at Glastonbury, MGMT also Glastonbury, Arctic Monkeys at the Brickyard in Carlisle, Chemical Brothers at Glastonbury, Travis at V Festival back in 2000...

I think I'm getting boring now, but over the years there have been so many!! The ones above are those that spring to mind right now though.

As you can tell from that line-up, I do love festivals! However I also love intimate gigs - I wouldn't say I have a favourite... they are both very different and wonderful experiences, but for different reasons!

How about you Shoegazer?

I used to go and see so many bands live... I almost feel old now that I stopped! I used to go to Download a lot because it's only a couple of miles away from me so I could walk there and back - the best bands I saw were always the ones I saw by accident as much as the ones I planned to. I fell in love with 3 Colours Red just by accidentally seeing them live in the second tent!

I do love the smaller gigs too though. My favourite live band was Sonata Arctica, who I already loved but fell in love with all over again with their humour and sheer talent. (Less in love with the woman in the crowd screaming "I love you Tony!" and "marry me Tony!" to the lead singer though!)

Ah, now I feel all nostalgic... I really want to go and see live music again. It's a pain living in the middle of nowhere!

Right ladies... well the most recent band I saw was Interpol a couple of months back, I got into them last year and have to say I found them to be even better live. I have tickets to see Blink-182 in July, for sheer nostalgia sake! They were a fave of mine as a teenager, don't laugh! I love rock music of all types, but my main loves would be grunge, and acoustic, folky stuff. I like some punk and metal too, so a nice mix!

I've actually never been to a festival... I think I'm put off by big crowds. And like you, Aesti, may I call you Aesti? I also don't live too far from Download and have thought about going in the past. I may have grown out of the idea now though!

I like Folkmusic and have been to the Moniaive Folk Festival a few times. Really nice small-village environment, friendly and in May - so can be quite nice weather.

If you google Moniaive you will find a link!

*lol* Aesti's fine, Shoegazer. (Does this mean I can call you Shoe? )

I wouldn't laugh - my mother absolutely loves Blink-182! I really don't remember where she heard them but she completely fell in love. I hear they're a really good live band too. Where is it you're seeing them?

That's definitely Download's down-side (*lol*) - there are so many people there. It's a little difficult if you're the wrong side of 5'5" too, as so many people who go seem to be nearer 6', but it's always an... interesting experience! I'd recommend it if there was a band you really wanted to see though, and they do have a good mix sometimes - I went one year to see Nightwish and ended up seeing Billy Idol too, who was frankly incredible!

Oh dear well as I am only 5'2 I think you may be right about the festivals... then again it's the same at concerts! I'm not one of those people who can arrive hours early and squeeze to the front, but I guess being smaller helps you to find the little nooks where you get a good view of the frontman for few minutes at a time!

I love that your mother is into Blink-182 lol, I am seeing them at what they're now calling the "Capital FM Arena" - never had much of a decent name, has it? I don't usually go to arena gigs because I think they tend to lack much of an atmosphere (then again I may disagree if I were seeing them at say, the O2!). I didn't want to miss out on seeing them though as I had tickets to see them years ago and their tour was cancelled, so I thought I would take the opportunity this time!

What was the year you went to Download? I really wanted to go the year of Alice in Chains and Guns N Roses comebacks! But alas it was not to be as I couldn't find enough willing bodies! Then again, I heard that GnR weren't the best, and in any clips I've seen of them playing live recently Axl always seems to end up getting something thrown at him!

*lol* I'm only 5'2" myself, it does make it a little easier to duck to the front and a lot of people don't seem to mind if you point out they can see over your head. (And if that doesn't work, elbows sometimes do. *lol* )

Oh dear, you're right about the name. It's a shame their tour was cancelled before, what happened? I've heard that the Arena can build up a really good feeling with some bands performing (a friend who saw Muse there said it was amazing) so hopefully Blink-182 will be one of them!

I went to Download in 2003, 2004 and 2005 (it feels longer than that!) but between a lack of money and a lack of people I've not been since. Mind, it's one of those festivals when things get thrown at most bands - but from the sounds of it, Axl Rose would be well-used to that anyway. Perhaps with any luck they'll perform again and you can rustle up some company!

I think it's rare these days that Axl can get through a set on stage without throwing a wobbler and storming off! If I went to see them now I think I'd be a bit concerned about getting my money's worth

A friend of mine saw Muse at the Arena as well, and she really enjoyed it. I've also seen the Darkness and Incubus there, both good gigs I'll admit. I suppose the bands do make or break the experience ultimately. Blink-182 cancelled because of illess or injury I think, I can't believe that must have been about 8 years ago now where does the time go!
