Subject: Money saving toiletry alternatives
Hi,
If you're like me, you're feeling the cost of Christmas and wondering how you'll make your money last until the next pay day

Does anyone have any good money saving tips as alternatives to expensive lotions and potions?

At the moment I'm saving money by using hair conditioner instead of shaving gel - I really can't tell the difference!

Also, I have one big pot of cheap bodylotion which I added self tan too, I'm using it every day and it's much cheaper than the gradual tan stuff which is on the market.

anyone else got any great tips?

We tend to end up buying stuff like conditioner and stuff at places like Aldi. Often they're as good as bigger brands with cheaper prices - although their hairspray grips like a wet fish, so that was a bit of a waste...

I used to shave my legs with cheap bubblebath. *lol* Surprisingly effective stuff too.

I love the idea about the body lotion and self tan, I might have to try that one!

I just use shower gel as shaving gel; I find that as long as I have a fairly sharp razor it works fine for me Besides that, I bought an epilator for about £40, and it's saved me hundreds of pounds on waxing appointments. (I shave under my arms and epilate my legs)

Using solid soap instead of liquid soap for washing hands also works quite well for me; it really does last longer. Also, finding a brand of shampoo that suits you properly really helps. I'm currently using a brand (Naked Colour) that I bought for its eco credentials but I end up using twice as much so it's a bit of a false economy.

I buy the nail varnish remover pads and cut them in half to save money. They are always soaked in the varnish remover so you never need a whole pad to to your nails. My mum laughs at how tight I am!

Mistress, I love that idea! It always seems a shame to waste them when you don't use that much but it never really occured to me to cut them in half... it's not being tight, it's being sensible.

If your hair is dry and brittle (like mine) mix a dollop of castor oil with the conditioner, and it works a treat for moisture and shine.

Fuller's earth (they sell them in the ethnic part of the store, like in my local Sainsburys) for under a £1 a packet. Very good for a skin mask. You can use it for your hair, too.

Dr Bonner's liquid soap is the business. I use it for hair and face and body. It's squeaky clean.

I refill liquid hand wash with store brand bath creme eg Sainsbury's Tesco's etc. If you look at the ingredients they are practically identical and cost around 80p a litre as opposed to £1 for 250 - 500ml of basic hand wash. I also sometimes cut make up remover wipes in half if I haven't had much make up on.

-Buy toiletries from poundland, they have loads of name brand stuff.

-A tiny drop of baby oil should bring a dried out mascara back to life.

-Cut open tubes to get the last bit out, I know it sounds obvious but loads of people don't do it.

-If you're a perfume addict like me go on fragrancedirect.com or ebay to get your faves much cheaper. Also don't be afraid to ask for free samples, f.uck the snooty assistants, it's a reccession!

-Also be aware you can get most of your fave make up MUCH cheaper on ebay. I got a barand new benefit make up set for 7 quid last week.
