It's the end of an era - Big Brother is set to be axed, after steadily losing viewers over the past few years.

The show that gave us Jade's kebab, Kinga's liason with a wine bottle and  Shabaz's breakdown (not to mention making household names out of Davina McCall and Russell Brand) is set to depart our TV screens after its 11th series next summer, Channel Four bosses confirmed this morning. Drawing in millions of viewers during its heyday in 2002, high-profile problems such as the Celebrity Big Brother race row have seen viewing figures drop up to 30%.

Another broadcaster is expected to step in to buy the rights to the programme,  however at this point in time the future of the show is unclear.
