Prepare yourselves for the ultimate TV showdown - X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing are set to go head-to-head for the Saturday night TV ratings, after BBC bosses decided to pit the celebrity dance show directly against its ITV rival by scheduling it for the same time slot.

The move has caused an outcry amongst TV addicts, who have claimed that the aggressive move means that their Saturday night is now ruined by having to choose which of the two shows to watch. This years Strictly line-up includes boxer Joe Calzhage, ex-Eastenders actress Natalie Cassidy and cricketer Phil Tufnell, and the show is keen to claw back viewers after the X Factor had higher viewing figures last year (no doubt due to a certain Cheryl Cole's debut as a judge).

This year's series of Strictly will kick off on Friday, September 18, with the first full show the following evening.
