Santa Gifts
Now let\'s begin with Christmas coming up. How excited are you? And which is your favourite bit - turkey, sparkly lights or present opening?
Ooooh, I love it all but have to say present buying is my thing. I spend hours and weeks thinking of what people will like and then buying them presents. I just love it. It sounds quite weird but sometimes I like to go with a theme and I try to coordinate people\'s presents. I just love buying things for people...
I love that. How early do you start buying presents? Do you start thinking about what people would like in March? (p.s. if you say yes I might get nervous).
No can do. Just can\'t do it too early. My problem is that as soon as I buy something for someone I want to give it to them immediately. Seriously, I just can\'t wait. Even this year I went a bit early and my mum already has a few of her presents because I just couldn\'t wait. I need to put it off until about the first or second week of December and then I\'m ready! Plus I have about seven people to think about and to buy for so it\'s not too stressful - it\'s manageable.

xmas puppies
You\'re been described as one of the world\'s most beautiful women. Was that exciting or hideous?
Oh gosh I never know how to answer that. I laughed to be honest. It was my Dad who told me because he saw it somewhere - we giggled for a bit and then moved on. I mean, it\'s a fantastic compliment but I\'m not sure who\'s voting!
What\'s the most successful present you\'ve ever given and who was it to? (did they cry or scream or just give you a massive hug).
Oh. I don\'t know. Eeeek. I\'m quite proud of my present giving... I think jewellery for my Mum is lovely and makes her so happy. Also, I bought my Mum a puppy once. He was a Huskie and he had little blue eyes and everyone just loved him. He was called Kite. Strange name but there you go...

Kite. Anyway, are you into big and glam presents or do you prefer smaller and more personalised ones?
I like to do a stocking thing which sounds silly but is mix and match, that way people get some big and some small. Recently I bought a friend some personalised tea from a company called Blend-for-a-friend. It\'s totally fantastic you give a detailed description of your friend and if, for example, they\'re bright and sparky they put orange blossom in the blend. The tea incorporates the person\'s personality, my friend just loved it.
If you could be anywhere on Christmas Day where would it be? At home or on a beach?
I\'d love to say at home because it\'s so cosy. My parents live in the country and we\'ve got a little pug that we take for walk in the nearby fields, and on Boxing day we go for a pub lunch. We all have such a lovely time round Christmas. But saying that... beach and warmth - that\'s got me thinking...

When you travel what do you always take on a plane?
Okay, this sounds luxurious but I just can\'t be without Crème de la Mer. I\'ve got the driest skin in the world and it can get really irritable. I mean, really severely dry skin so I just lather that on. If I don\'t do it my skin looks like a paper bag when I get off the plane. So I know it sounds silly but it really is a life saver. I try to drink water but it doesn\'t quite work.
I know exactly what you mean. I think I actually may be allergic to water. Now, what\'s been the best holiday of your life?
Probably Cuba last year. I travelled around with an ex boyfriend and we had the most amazing time. We went to Havana and then somewhere in the North and it was just stunning. There were deserted beaches, white sand and it was so beautiful and hot and I have a real thing for Latin cultures. It was the most gorgeous trip and the people were totally vivacious. You should go.

I will. It sounds amazing. What kind of music do you like to listen to while flying, or do you prefer to watch films?
I love to listen to music and I really, really like to sleep, especially if I\'m going long haul. I always know that if I didn\'t sleep I\'ll be vile at the other side.
Name three songs on your iPod that would relax you during a flight.
Anything by Cat Stevens, Neil Young and The Who and I\'m sorted.
Can you recommend a brilliant holiday read?
When I\'m on holiday I don\'t really like to read...That might sound mad but for me reading is a bedtime thing. On holiday I want to explore and have nice meals and get out there and soak it all up so I don\'t really read on holiday.

You must be going on trips with people who are brilliant fun. Once you\'ve been with someone for a while you can\'t wait for a book! Which celebrity, past or present, would you be excited to find sitting next to you on the plane?
Colin Farrell would be hilarious. I think he\'d be fascinating to talk to as he seems so incredible.
Surely, Colin with short hair?
Oh no way. I love long hair on men. Every boyfriend I\'ve ever been with has started with short hair and by the end they have long hair.
Are you seeing that racing car driver Jensen Button because how would he drive with long hair?
(giggle) No, I\'m not...

Which of these best describes you: beach bum, culture vulture, or thrill seeker?
I think a mix of culture vulture and beach bum. I love good restaurants, a nice square, a local market and I love to get involved with people who live there. I like to go up to the mountains and then spend day on beach.
That\'s perfect. You like exploring and then a lie down. Are you a spontaneous traveller, or do you plan holidays months in advance?
Completely and totally spontaneous. When I went to LA recently I decided the day before. I literally bought the ticket one night and left the next day. You have to take your chances especially in this business because you never know when you\'re going to be working. So yes, very spontaneous.

What are your packing rituals? Any tips?
I write lists. In fact, I write lists about writing lists. I actually get joy from writing lists. Then I usually lose the list and probably won\'t use it anyway.
Is there something you always forget to pack? Has this happened on a film? Like you forgot shampoo? (please say yes, this would make me feel better about forgetting most things).
Toothpaste. Always. Without fail. And I end up using silly travel ones and they\'re so diddy they\'ve only got 2 days worth in them.

pashmina
But are you like me and like little things?
YES. When my Dad used to travel he\'d bring me back miniature salt and peppers and I\'d get really excited.
Genius. What helps you to relax while travelling?
Music always does it - it\'s a big thing. And my pashmina. I wrap myself up it and get really snug and stick on my music and I\'m away and no one can wake me...
Describe your earliest memory of flying in an aeroplane?
My earliest memory of flying was when I was 11. I\'ve flown since I was 5 or 6 but I can\'t remember those trips. When I was 11 I went off to America to do my first film and I was with my mum and we were in business class and it was MASSIVE. I was so excited.

island
What would you suggest to travellers hoping to explore a new city?
Make friends with the locals or failing that, call up someone who\'s been there before. If someone asked me about London I could give so many great places to go and to eat. And little places that are really great fun and not too expensive and are off the beaten track.
That\'s a freakishly good point. Back to Christmas, if you were given a flight to anywhere in the world as one of your presents where would it be going?
My sister lives on an island called Tranquillity Island off Vanuatu in the South Pacific and I really want to visit and I\'d love to see it. She\'s a scuba diving instructor there and this will be the first Christmas she isn\'t at home so definitely I\'d hop on a plane and go and see her...

airport
If you were buying Christmas presents for people at the airport which brands would you be looking out for? What would your best friend Talulah Riley like?
Perfume is always a great one. I\'d get some Chanel no. 5 for my Mum and a bottle of nice brandy for my Dad. Plus I really like Bobbi Brown and I\'d get that for Talulah.
Do you buy new clothes for a holiday or do you buy at the airport or when you get there?
I\'d pick up stuff when I\'m out there. I love it when people wear things they\'ve bought from all over the world...
When does your holiday begin - when you leave home, when you arrive at the airport or as you arrive at your destination?
Definitely when I arrive at the airport. I get magazines and walk around the stores and I get very over excited. I have a cup of tea and invariably rush for the plane.

Is there a last-minute dash for the airport or do you leave plenty of time for the journey?
Last minute dash for the airport. Always!
Finally, what are you secretly hoping Santa brings you this year?
Well, I have this beautiful sapphire and diamond necklace from my Mum and dad and I\'d love some earrings for it... Do you think you can make sure they read this?
