handbag's got The X Factor - Sunday night at the judges houses

19:45 Welcome to the X Factor, where it's decision time. We're about to find out who's going through to the X Factor live shows and we're going to be live blogging. We have five boxes of Kleenex to get us through the ordeal.

It could not be more tense. The teaser section shows Frankie crying, as Gary tells someone he's not going through. Clever editing? Or is Frankie, and his tattooed bottom, really heading home? Are there any more tears left anywhere in the world?

19:50 The first big shock? Luke Lucas is heading home, and Gary actually has a massive soft side.

19:56 Gary Barlow's delivering more bad news to his lads. Giving us some concerned, eyebrow furrowed looks for good measure. There are tears. Don't you just hate it when men cry? It makes it ten times worse. Max is heading home, Jo too. The latter doesn't take the news too well. Gary's already told us he's not a 'gambling man', but it turns out he's definitely someone that goes back on his words, two minutes later he's telling James Michael he's going to take a gamble and he's heading through.

19:59: Those X Factor producers are naughty things, aren't they? They've left Frankie Cocozza and John Wilding til last. How can you choose between these two? It's just not possible! After leaving Frankie hanging til the last possible moment Gary puts him out of his misery and tells him he's in the live shows. No wonder all the contestants are offered access to a psychologist, we're getting heart palpitations just sitting on our sofa.

20:09 The Estrelles and 2 Shoes are finding out their fate from Tulisa. The Estrelles are told that they've got that 'old-fashioned edge' they automatically think they're going home. One of the Estrelles starts crying, already. 2 Shoes are told they've got the fun factor. So regardless of whether they've got the X Factor or not, at least they'll always have that. Wearing what can only be described as matching doilies , 2 Shoes though, and The Estrelles are heading back to the Old People's Home they came from.

20:12 Next up Tulisa tells NuVibe that they're heading through. Even though the boy band market is so saturated right now - probably with old boy bands that decided to get back together, like, um, Take That (our words, not Tulisa's).

20:14 Isn't it funny how all the judges aren't ever sure, but... they've made a decision. Girl Vs Boy are told they're going home while Rhythmics are through.

20:15: The Risk look like they've lost before Tulisa even gives them her news. While The Keys give an emotional interview before being told their fate, and Tulisa has that problem with a band that seems 'old-fashioned' again. Both bands are told they're heading home. But WAIT. There's a twist. She's giving Charlie from The Keys a chance to be in a 'super group' with three lads from The Risk. There's no mention of the fact that Charlie's just stitched his friends (umm... you know... from his band... The Keys?) The new band is called The Risk.

20:25 Louis' not pulling any punches this week. He tells Kitty Brucknell what we've all been thinking, that she's a diva. Johnny Robinson is through to the live shows. Even the person he calls can't believe it. Sami Brookes is told she's heading home, while Kitty Brucknell is. We're left wondering why Louis Walsh is a judge.

20:32 Nooooo... Goldie is being sent through. What is going on? Should we bother watching this anymore. Is anyone taking the competition seriously? There's only one place left, Terry and JohnJo are left, and there's only ONE place. JohnJo says, "If Louis believes in me, maybe I'll believe in me a bit more." We wonder if he's aware Louis' just put through Goldie.

20:35 Terry's heading back to the building site, while JohnJo takes the final place in Louis' 'line-up'.

20:38 After all that, we're told that Sami is going through because Goldie has pulled out. And the programme starts to look a bit more like a competition.

20:44 We're on the home straight as we're with Kelly who's about to deliver the girls the news that could make or break them.

Mischa Bryan is the first girl to be told that she's going through. There are tears, Kelly's excited about having her there. We are too! Amelia Lily gets told she's going through too. We come to the conclusion that Dermot O'Leary must love the judges houses, because he gets to give so many young ladies a hug - he must also get a lot of snot on his shirt though.

20:48 Sarah Watson and Holly Renton are told that they're going home, while Sophie Habibis is given a pep talk about 'wanting it badly' before being told she's going through.

20:52 Oh X Factor you cruel, cruel beast. Jade Richards is going head-to-head with Janet Devlin for the final place in Kelly's group. Who's it going to be? We don't even know who we want it to be. We're so confused. Woah. Jade Richards going home. It's like when you have two choices, you flip a coin to get the answer and then you know you wanted the other choice. What?!

Phew! That was more drama than an episode of Downton Abbey. But there it is, our final 16. Do you know who you want to win already? Were you upset that anyone didn't make it through? Let us know! And see you next week, when we'll be live blogging the first show.
