Mutya Buena wins Sugababes name
Original Sugababes member Mutya Buena has won the legal battle to the rights of the name Sugababes, leaving the present girlband without a name.
Mutya left the band in 2005, four years before her fellow bandmate Keisha Buchanan quit and the band without a single original member.
Since then Buena has been persuing the legal rights to the name Sugababes, and has announced that she succeeded.
Writing on her Facebook page yesterday, Mutya said, "I won the official name of the Sugababes now!!! I deserve this! I'm over the moon!" Buena is also down as the owner of the name Sugababes on the official EU trademark website.
The win means that current Sugababes members Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range, and Jade Ewen will have to find another name to record and tour under, and also means that the original Sugababes line-up are free to reform. Although we're not sure how likely that is.
