Prince William and Kate Middelton plan to marry next year, Clarence House has announced. The couple are expected to marry in spring or early summer in the year which would have marked the 30th anniversary of Prince Charles and Princess Dianas wedding. "The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course, Clarence House announced in a statement to press. "Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father."
Public and royal figures have been quick to send their best wishes. The Queen said she is "absolutely delighted" while David Cameron sent the couple his very best wishes. Labour leader Ed Miliband said, the whole country will be wishing them every happiness".
The couple have been together since 2002, after meeting while studying at St Andrews University in Fyffe.
