Police confirm preferential treatment for Hilton
American socialite Paris Hilton
Police have confirmed Paris Hilton received an earlier release from prison than would normally be expected, the Las Vegas Review Journal reports. Hilton was taken into custody and charged on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance last month after being found with cocaine in her purse. However, police have been criticised after it was reported the socialite was released from Clark County Detention Center after just three hours, when the average time needed to process the charge is usually more than six hours.
However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief has explained Hiltons case was speeded up simply to avoid disruption. "She was treated differently so I don't have a disruption of my process here at the county jail," Jim Dixon revealed. "When you bring somebody in like that, everybody comes over and tries to look at them. I'd have officers attempting to keep inmates away from her. I'd have disruptions."
Hilton, who has denied the drug belonged to her, is due in court in Las Vegas 27 October.
