Double celebration for Javier Bardem! Not only did the actor get an Oscar nomination yesterday for his role in Biutiful, but he's also a dad - his beautiful wife Penelope Cruz has just given birth in Los Angeles.
The gender of the baby hasn't yet been revealed, or a name, but hopefully we won't have to wait too long - even though the pair are really rather private. In fact, they had a secretive wedding in the Bahamas in July last year, two months before Cruz's pregnancy was confirmed.
Later, when David Letterman quizzed Cruz about her relationship, she said:
"I've been here a few times with you, you know I'm tough. One thing I don't do, I don't lie about my personal life... It's sacred to me. It's my life. But I don't give details about it because I am allergic to that.
"I don't feel comfortable talking about my private life in public."
Okay, we get it.
These details we do know though; although the Spanish pair started dating in 2007, they appeared together on screen for the first time way back in 1992 for a Spanish drama comedy Jamon, Jamon. Since then, they have appeared together Live Flesh and Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which earned Cruz a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2008.
Meanwhile, Bardem won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2007 for No Country for Old Men, which means if he gets lucky next month, it will be his second statuette.
